Welcome!

Welcome to Robyn Howitt and Kaili Kinnon’s South African art-teaching blog!

In May, we will travel to Johannesburg, South Africa where we will volunteer at the Sparrow Ministries AIDS Village and Orphanage. There, we will run arts related activities for the school age children who live there, as well as help with the infants and toddlers.

Kids @ Sparrow VillageSparrow Village is a home and hospice for approximately 290 people suffering from AIDS and those who have been made orphans by the AIDS pandemic. It is a place for people with nowhere to go to die in relative comfort and love, and for orphans of AIDS to be given love and encouragement to grow and achieve something better in life. Sparrow believes that ” No Child Should Live Or Die Alone “.

We have kicked off our fundraising, so if you want to contribute, feel free to click on the “ChipIn” Widget on this blog. The ChipIn widget will direct you to a PayPal account where you can pay via Visa, MasterCard or American Express.

Our total costs for this trip are $2600 CAD for each of us.

$1800 for Airfare
$250 for housing
$500 for Art Supplies for the children

Your support will only be used for the costs of our travel or for Sparrow. Be it for Airfare, Housing or for the Art Supplies that we will be taking with us to enrich the arts and creativity programs we will run in Sparrow Village. Any excess funds received during fundraising will be given to Sparrow.

Please note: The photos that appear in the top bar were taken by Kaili’s mother Imbi, from their brief game drive while the Kinnon family was in Kenya on a six week missions trip in 2002.
